Strava is a consumer-focused social fitness platform and mobile app that tracks and analyzes athletic activities (running, cycling, hiking and many other sports) using GPS and connected devices. It combines activity recording, detailed performance metrics, route planning, community features (clubs, challenges, feeds) and optional subscription services to help athletes train, connect and compete.

📋 Description

• Own and evolve the systems that power activity data at Strava • Design and build backend services that handle millions of activity uploads • Operate and improve critical production infrastructure • Partner with product teams to scope and deliver platform capabilities • Contribute to technical design reviews, write and review design docs

🎯 Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software development experience or equivalent wisdom • A track record of writing software that runs well in production • Significant backend/server engineering experience • Experience with distributed systems • Hands-on experience with data stores such as SQL or column stores • Proficiency in at least one of Strava's backend languages (Ruby, Scala, Go, Java) • Experience with distributed systems technologies like Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud infrastructure (AWS) • Ability to break down ambiguous problems, drive projects through to delivery, and communicate clearly
