📋 Description

• Review emergency department medical records and assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and applicable modifiers • Assign facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels using client-specific emergency department leveling guidelines, facility charging methodologies, and the ACEP E/M tool • Analyze clinical documentation from physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and diagnostic services for complete and accurate code assignment and charge capture • Apply official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, and payer-specific requirements • Review procedural services, injections, and infusions for accurate coding and billing • Identify documentation gaps and communicate coding clarification needs • Maintain compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and organizational coding policies and procedures • Participate in coding audits, quality assurance reviews, educational initiatives, and process improvement activities • Stay informed on coding updates, reimbursement changes, and regulatory requirements • Collaborate with coding leadership, auditors, and client stakeholders to resolve coding-related questions and ensure coding accuracy

🎯 Requirements

• Experience coding emergency department facility records • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems • Familiarity with ACEP emergency department leveling guidelines and facility E/M coding methodologies • Working knowledge of CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and payer requirements • Proficiency using Epic or comparable electronic health record systems • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills • Ability to maintain coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance in a fast-paced healthcare environment • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred certification • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred certification • Certified Emergency Department Coder (CEDC) preferred but not required
