📋 Description

• Conduct scientific and regulatory reviews of ophthalmic device submissions across the total product life cycle, including premarket, compliance, and post-market surveillance actions • Review 510(k)s, PMAs, De Novos, IDEs, pre-submissions, submission issue requests, 513(g)s, recalls, and complaint submissions • Evaluate the adequacy of methodologies, protocols, and data from bench, animal, and clinical testing • Obtain consultation reviews when submissions fall outside the reviewer’s expertise • Recommend submission clearance, approval, disapproval, requests for additional information, or scientific/regulatory feedback • Prepare comprehensive review memos and applicant correspondence • Assist in developing, modifying, and evaluating agency guidelines for medical device data requirements • Present reviews, conclusions, opinions, and recommendations to scientific review panels • Collaborate with scientists to understand medical device problems • Stay current on medical device law, regulations, scientific literature, and legislative developments

🎯 Requirements

• Solid background in basic and/or clinical visual psychophysics, visual optics, and optical instrumentation, evidenced by independent, peer-reviewed published research • Research experience with human participants, including clinical trial design and management, especially clinical research involving ophthalmic devices • Expertise in critically reviewing scientific documents and clearly communicating review results • Background in visual neuroscience, including neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the retina and visual pathways; visual electrophysiology; and functional imaging of visual pathways • Knowledge of optics of the eye, retinal scattered light, retinal image quality, and photoreceptor optics • Knowledge of light energy hazard analysis and mechanisms of light damage to the eye • Knowledge of low vision causes and rehabilitation • Experience with clinical psychophysical and optical testing, including contrast sensitivity, BCVA, mesopic acuity, perimetry, color vision testing, stereopsis, pupillometry, aberrometry, accommodation testing, light and dark adaptation, and psychophysical methodology • Doctoral-level degree in a relevant field preferred; an M.S. in Life Sciences/Engineering with extensive relevant experience may also be considered • Minimum of 5–10 years’ experience in fields directly relevant to the Vision Scientist position • Experience authoring and evaluating responses to and from Regulatory Agencies desired • Demonstrated proficient written and oral communication • Must be a US Citizen or full Green Card holder
