📋 Description

• Review medical records and billing system programs to determine coding and billing accuracy • Ensure federal and state coding and billing guidelines are followed • Conduct inpatient and outpatient coding and billing audits according to the audit plan, focusing on hospital billing and CMS laws and regulations • Audit departmental systems and processes for compliance with state and federal laws and regulations • Provide audit results to affected areas and educate staff regarding errors • Prepare detailed audit reports for the Clinical Billing Compliance Director, Associate Vice Chancellor, Hospital Administration, Revenue Cycle, and Department Managers • Develop and present educational in-service programs on new regulatory issues for inpatient and outpatient coders • Serve as a resource on regulations, coding issues, charge and billing issues, facility charging and billing, and regulatory concerns • Perform external and special audits, including OIG, MAC, RAC, and MIC audits • Review RAC audits for DRG issues and write RAC appeal letters for DRG changes • Communicate with regulatory agencies for clarification of regulations or assistance with audit and coding issues • Participate in special projects and perform other assigned duties

🎯 Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree plus 3 years’ experience in inpatient and outpatient coding/auditing functions OR high school diploma plus 7 years’ experience in inpatient and outpatient coding/auditing functions • Must have one current coding certification: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) • Demonstrated ability to present information verbally • Strong written communication skills with attention to detail • Ability to make reasonable decisions based on gathered information • Ability to interpret regulatory information and deliver learned information to physicians • Ability to explain the financial impact to the hospital • Proficiency in current COM/UAMS coding and billing policies and procedures • Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations • Must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment • Three professional references required • Resume required
