📋 Description

• Lead protective relay commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting • Oversee field demolition and construction activities for relay replacement projects at generation facilities, substations, and other sites • Operate Omicron, Doble, Radian, and other vendor test sets through vendor software or manual control • Program, install, test, troubleshoot, certify, and verify revenue and check meters and electronic data recorders • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing and diagnose metering problems • Conduct point-to-point metering and telemetry testing to validate wiring, data paths, and communication to head-end systems • Review and mark up SLDs, 3LDs, schematics, and wiring diagrams for field troubleshooting • Review engineering work packages and field conditions to identify constructability, wiring, and commissioning issues • Develop or support field mitigation plans, document deviations, and coordinate required changes with responsible engineers • Prepare or review test plans, commissioning procedures, job hazard analyses, test records, redlines, daily reports, deficiency lists, and final configuration backups • Coordinate field activities with engineers, contractors, owners, and operations personnel • Connect to relays, meters, and RTUs on-site and remotely to retrieve settings, event files, configurations, and other data • Support troubleshooting and event analysis using oscillography, sequence of event reports, live data, and on-site wiring • Develop and maintain relaying and metering standards, procedures, and safety practices • Serve as an expert in discipline-specific software and train and mentor engineers and technicians • Inspect relay and meter panels for compliance with client requirements, applicable codes, and AHJ standards • Support SCADA point-to-point checkouts, RTU, RTAC, and OrionLX configuration review, and troubleshooting of DNP3, Modbus, and similar protocols • Perform work according to Ulteig, client, and site-specific safety requirements • Estimate labor and equipment for budgeting, maintain schedules, provide progress reports, and work independently in the field • Communicate with clients to meet their needs and build long-term relationships

🎯 Requirements

• Associate degree, trade school certificate, or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electrical power, or relay/substation technology; OR equivalent technical training and hands-on experience in protective relaying and metering • 5+ years of testing and commissioning or similar experience required • Strong foundational understanding of power system fundamentals and basic theory • Working knowledge of HV substation equipment and MV electrical apparatus, including station service, MV switchgear, and protective relaying • On-site commissioning experience, including CT/PT injection and verification, protective and end-to-end relay testing, protection scheme functional verification, CT/PT burden/load checks, and/or meter accuracy tests preferred • Field experience supporting on-site demolition, construction, and hands-on troubleshooting of protection and control schemes preferred • Proficiency with relay and meter test sets such as Omicron CMC, Doble F6000, Megger SMRT, Radian RW, WECO, and similar test sets a plus • Knowledge of SCADA systems and programming is a plus • Knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70) and California Electrical Code (CEC) is a plus • Proficiency in SEL Quickset, SEL AcSELerator RTAC, SEL SynchroWAVe, GE Enervista UR Setup, Schneider ION Setup, and similar vendor software a plus • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and PDF markup or document-management software • Experience using digital tools, automation, or generative AI to improve reporting and field workflows preferred • Experience applying industry best practices and established safety regulations, including PPE inspection, hazard mitigation, and stop-work directives • Ability to travel 50%-75% throughout the United States and work extended or irregular hours during outages and commissioning activities • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods, work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, and lift or carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements • Must have permanent authorization to work in the U.S. • NETA Electrical Testing Technician (ETT), NICET Electrical Power Testing (EPT), state electrician certification, and/or vendor training certificates preferred but not required
