• Interview applicants and recipients using adaptive techniques • Determine eligibility and benefit levels using automated systems and manual methods • Process SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, Energy, General Relief, Auxiliary Grants, Refugee Cash, and Medical Assistance applications • Analyze information and policy to determine and redetermine ongoing eligibility • Calculate income and resource eligibility under state and federal guidelines • Explain benefit programs, rights, responsibilities, agency services, and community resources • Identify social problems and refer clients to social workers as needed • Research, interpret, and apply mandated program policies and procedures • Maintain records and caseload integrity; identify errors and potential fraud • Evaluate data consistency and substantiate accuracy when needed • Respond to appeals, prepare appeal summaries and supporting documentation, and participate in hearings • Participate in unit and agency meetings, workgroups, teams, training, and learning opportunities • Recommend internal policy and procedure changes • Perform related tasks as required
• High school diploma supplemented with additional training and related work experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience • General knowledge of interviewing, time management, and public social service organizations • Knowledge of social, economic, and health problems and human behavior/social functioning • Mathematics knowledge for percentages, formulas, and averages • Interviewing, data collection, and investigation techniques • Ability to analyze policy and identify missing information and gaps • Ability to access data such as estates, retirement accounts, and real estate • Professional confidentiality ethics • Computer and software proficiency • High attention to detail • Effective relationship-building with clients, coworkers, management, and the public • Sound judgment, discretion, tact, and resourcefulness • Effective oral and written communication • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple activities and projects • Must reside within the Commonwealth of Virginia • Must drive and meet the County’s safe driver policy eligibility requirements • Willingness to travel occasionally overnight • May be subject to criminal history and central registry background checks • Cover letter, resume, and three references required
