📋 Description

• Serve as the primary communications partner to the Wikimedia Foundation CEO, providing strategic counsel and direct support across internal and external communications • Build a comprehensive engagement strategy for multiple complex stakeholder groups • Develop, shape, and implement a communications strategy for the CEO in collaboration with media relations, internal communications, and the Chief of Staff • Support external communications for other executive team members and the Board of Trustees • Identify, shape, and execute thought leadership opportunities for the CEO and other executives • Secure and prepare leaders for public speaking and media engagements • Develop speeches, remarks, talking points, social media posts, internal communications, briefing documents, and blogs • Develop narratives and messaging strategies that increase awareness and understanding of Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects • Write and ghostwrite speeches, op-eds, quotes, external statements, blog posts, and staff emails from the CEO • Guide executive social media strategy across channels including LinkedIn and TikTok • Seek earned media opportunities and speaking engagements; build public presence for Foundation leadership • Leverage reporter and conference organizer relationships to identify publications and speaking venues • Collaborate across departments, teams, volunteer communities, and global communications channels

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience in communications, including several years supporting C-level executives • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills, with ability to adapt communications for different stakeholders • Ability to engage with senior leadership-level presence and communicate Wikimedia Foundation work at multiple levels • Experience navigating crisis communications and preparing executives for sensitive or rapidly evolving situations • Proven ability to pitch stories, engage press, and manage key relationships • Experience working with reporters, staffing media interviews, and shaping articles • Experience developing social media strategies customized for channels such as LinkedIn and TikTok • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines • Experience maintaining systems and documentation for projects with multiple stakeholders • Willingness to travel as needed, potentially 3–5 trips per year, and work across time zones • Ability to work with colleagues who do not have English as their primary language • Preference for candidates based in the Eastern Time zone • Preference for candidates with Wikimedia community involvement or Wikimedia project editing experience • Non-US employees must have current work authorization in their location
