📋 Description

• Assess current safeguarding practice against the Keeping Children Safe International Child Safeguarding Standards, major donor requirements, and laws of priority fieldwork countries • Validate functional ownership and recommend a sustainable permanent staffing model • Strengthen policies, processes and tools for safe recruitment, fieldwork, partners and incident response • Review training and build internal safeguarding capacity • Review policies, protocols, training materials, contracts and internal responsibility maps • Interview Operations, Programs, the Global Safeguarding Lead, Impact and project teams • Score current practice, identify priority gaps and produce country context notes • Develop roles, decision rights, staffing recommendations and safeguarding language for job descriptions • Review and revise safeguarding, child protection, conduct, data protection, ethical images and risk assessment policies • Develop safe recruitment, fieldwork, participant, partner/vendor and incident response toolkits • Design and revise training materials, role-based training and external training recommendations • Create oversight indicators, annual review guidance and safeguarding costing guidance • Run train-the-trainer and handover sessions • Deliver a final report with a 12-month roadmap • Adapt safeguarding processes and tools for Deep Listening project teams and cluster leads • Recommend insurance, localized security/health protocols and systems for evaluating local referral services • Integrate gender and disability inclusion guidance

🎯 Requirements

• At least 7 years of safeguarding experience in international development or humanitarian settings, with a focus on children and youth • Experience designing safeguarding policies, systems and tools for small or mid-sized organizations • Working knowledge of the Keeping Children Safe good practice and major donor requirements • Experience with safe recruitment practices • Proven ability to design and deliver training, including train-the-trainer • Experience in the fieldwork countries is desirable, ideally Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique and Nigeria • Experience in research or data-collection settings, including research ethics and IRB processes, is desirable • Knowledge of data protection in safeguarding is desirable • Satisfactory background check and criminal record clearances required as a condition of employment
