📋 Description

• Lead three engineering teams through frontline Engineering Managers and support two Principal Engineers • Own the strategy, execution, and maturity of Zillow's customer identity platform • Establish and execute a 2–3 year customer identity roadmap • Own workforce planning, organizational design, hiring, succession planning, and leadership development • Manage budget, tooling portfolio, and vendor relationships • Represent CIAM at the executive level and translate identity architecture and risk into business impact • Consolidate authentication across Zillow Group brands, surfaces, and acquisitions • Extend a commercial Identity Provider to meet consumer experience, scale, and latency requirements • Provide SDKs, reference implementations, and documentation for authentication integrations • Set direction for MFA, step-up and conditional access, session management, and account recovery • Partner with Information Security, Privacy, Legal, and Compliance on identity controls and regulatory obligations • Lead design and delivery of a fine-grained authorization platform • Establish authorization models, policy authoring, migration paths, and auditability • Drive adoption across partner organizations and retire bespoke access logic • Grow centralized Customer and Identity services with clear ownership and canonical sources of truth • Partner with Product, Data, and downstream teams to define service boundaries • Ensure identity resolution, data lifecycle, and privacy correctness • Remain accountable for execution, quality, availability, latency, cost, and sustainable on-call practices

🎯 Requirements

• 12+ years of high-volume engineering experience • At least 5 years leading through managers in a technology organization • Background in software or platform engineering • Deep knowledge of identity and access management: authentication, authorization, MFA, conditional access, session and token management • Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, and JWT • Experience with commercial IAM platforms such as Auth0, Okta, or Ping Identity • Experience delivering platform capabilities consumed by many teams and driving adoption • Deep cloud experience with AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or similar • Experience with large-scale application architectures • Ability to drive alignment across multiple VP-level organizations • Exceptional communication skills • Track record of hiring, coaching, and developing engineers and managers • BS in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience • Standout: fine-grained or relationship-based authorization at production scale • Standout: authentication migration or consolidation across brands, acquisitions, or legacy systems • Standout: high-volume consumer-scale B2C identity • Standout: domain-driven design and canonical services • Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Go, Java, or Python
