📋 Description

• Set the team’s technical strategy on a year-long time scale and connect it to business-impacting projects • Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and site reliability engineering teams • Design and build scalable datastore platform components for multi-region, horizontally scalable, globally available, high-performance solutions • Develop control planes for self-service management of hundreds of databases, automating schema/data migrations, disaster recovery, sharding, and performance tuning • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle • Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes • Own team operations and availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call efforts • Set code review and design standards and promote quality through writing and tech talks • Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale • Experience using languages such as Python or Kotlin • Extensive experience developing highly available distributed systems • Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes • 5+ years of hands-on database expertise • Deep knowledge of relational and/or distributed SQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, TiDB, or Vitess • Understanding of schema design, query optimization, scaling, partitioning, sharding, and performance tuning • Strong background building and operating databases in cloud environments • Expertise in database benchmarking, load testing, and capacity planning • Familiarity with connection poolers and proxies such as ProxySQL, RDS Proxy, and PgBouncer • Experience delivering major features or system components, or deprecating existing functionality, through technical and execution plans • Ability to write high-quality, understandable, reusable code • Ability to work through ambiguity from low-level language idioms to large-system architecture • Demonstrated growth and impact through gathering and iterating on peer feedback • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
