📋 Description

• Own day-to-day accounting operations as the sole accountant • Report directly to the COO and partner with Sales and Client Success • Own the monthly billing cycle for SaaS subscriptions, implementation fees, expansion and upsell items, and third-party passthroughs • Interpret signed client contracts to determine billing terms • Source billing inputs from Salesforce, contract files, and deal owners • Reconcile third-party vendor invoices against client rebillings and investigate variances • Own accounts receivable collections, aging review, client follow-up, and escalation of at-risk balances • Prepare invoices for COO review and release • Own accounts payable intake, vendor coding, entries, payment runs, vendor relationships, statements, and disputes • Maintain vendor-to-GL coding standards and keep AP current • Own US multi-state sales tax, including nexus monitoring, registrations, filings, exemption certificates, voluntary disclosures, notices, and audits • Administer Avalara and reconcile taxable sales to filed returns • Support Canadian corporate tax filings and US federal and state returns with external advisors • Own the full month-end close across the US parent, Canadian entity, and subsidiary • Maintain deferred revenue, implementation fee amortization, prepaid expense, referral fee accrual, and sales commission amortization schedules • Allocate payroll and benefits across US and Canadian payroll, including CAD translation and RRSP remittance reconciliation • Investigate and explain month-over-month departmental variances • Produce the monthly KPI package for the board • Serve as primary contact for the annual financial statement audit • Prepare PBC schedules and workpapers, respond to auditor requests, and post audit adjustments • Maintain rollforward schedules tied to the general ledger • Control external distribution of audited financial statements through the COO • Document recurring processes, including close checklists, vendor coding, departmental mapping, and billing logic • Identify root causes of recurring errors and implement process, system, and workflow improvements

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full ownership of a month-end close (must have) • Hands-on US multi-state sales tax experience, including nexus determination, state registrations, filings, exemption certificate management, and voluntary disclosure agreements (must have) • Working knowledge of Avalara or a comparable sales tax engine, including integration with a billing system (must have) • US GAAP revenue recognition under ASC 606 applied to multi-element SaaS contracts, including implementation fee deferral and principal-versus-agent analysis for passthrough revenue (must have) • Experience in a multi-entity environment with cross-border operations and foreign currency translation • Experience owning or substantially supporting an external financial statement audit • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, and a billing platform • Zoho and Salesforce experience is a plus • Ability to work without supervision and independently pull data from a CRM, read signed contracts, and consult deal owners • Evidence of authored and maintained process documentation; work sample may be required • CPA (Canada or US) or equivalent practical experience • SaaS or fintech experience strongly preferred • Experience serving credit unions or community banks is a plus • Legal authorization to work in Canada • Comfort working in the EST timezone
