• Own the architecture of the data tier across migration and modernization programs • Assess current state and design target state, migration strategy, sequencing, risk, and effort • Make and defend convert-versus-rewrite-versus-retire and cloud platform decisions • Design Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations, including schema conversion, PL/SQL to PL/pgSQL strategy, mismatch resolution, query rewrites, and performance validation • Plan low-downtime cutovers using CDC replication, dual-run, output comparison, rehearsals, go/no-go criteria, and rollback plans • Diagnose database performance problems and implement evidence-based fixes • Architect cloud database infrastructure, including sizing, HA/failover, backup/recovery, patching, encryption, observability, and cost optimization • Define operational models for managed services, including runbooks, monitoring, alerting, escalation paths, and health checks • Lead client architecture and design sessions and communicate trade-offs to executive stakeholders • Support pre-sales and delivery planning through scoping, estimation, proposals, and statements of work • Build reusable reference architectures, migration playbooks, conversion patterns, and assessment tooling • Use agentic and AI-assisted workflows for conversion, test generation, analysis, and documentation while verifying outputs • Review engineers' database work, mentor engineers, and document architectural decisions
• 10+ years in database engineering, administration, or data platform work • Several years in an architect or principal-level role with design authority over business-critical systems • Deep Oracle expertise, including PL/SQL, partitioning, RMAN, Data Guard, AWR, ASH, execution plans, optimizer statistics, and SQL tuning • Strong PostgreSQL expertise, including PL/pgSQL, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, index strategy, partitioning, autovacuum, bloat management, connection pooling, replication, WAL, PITR, and production extensions • Both Oracle and PostgreSQL are required • Experience architecting and delivering Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations to production • Cloud infrastructure depth, ideally AWS, including RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS for Oracle or Oracle on EC2, VPC, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, and Performance Insights • Infrastructure-as-code and automation using Terraform or CloudFormation, plus Python, Bash, or PowerShell • Ability to read application code and understand database interactions • Practical experience with agentic AI tooling in technical delivery workflows • Executive-ready communication skills • Migration tooling experience with AWS Schema Conversion Tool, AWS DMS, ora2pg, or equivalents is preferred • Experience with MSSQL or other relational engines is preferred • Exposure to hybrid and private cloud environments is preferred • Managed services or 24/7 operational accountability is preferred • Consulting or MSP background with North American enterprise clients is preferred • Experience with .NET application teams is preferred • Data protection and compliance exposure is preferred • Observability tooling and database change management experience is preferred • Relevant certifications are a plus but do not substitute for demonstrated migration outcomes
