MobilityData is a Montreal-based non-profit organization that develops, maintains, and promotes shared data standards and tools to improve public and private mobility services. It focuses on improving and extending transit and mobility data formats (e. g. , GTFS, GBFS), providing training, documentation, open-source software, online services, and archival and metadata services. MobilityData operates a membership model and convenes public agencies, cities, and companies to increase data quality, discoverability, and interoperability so travel directions and mobility services better reflect the real world.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with the product manager to build tools aligned with the established roadmap • Deliver scalable, testable, and maintainable backend-focused software with frontend contributions using Python, Java, and TypeScript/NextJS • Leverage AI tools to accelerate development and streamline code reviews while maintaining human oversight • Contribute to technical documentation and educational content for technical and non-technical audiences • Review contributor code and provide feedback on best practices • Triage issues and maintain tools based on severity and priority • Work on the GTFS Validator, MobilityDatabase Web, and Mobility Feed API • Share knowledge and promote standard methodologies • Collaborate with developers, product managers, technical leadership, and the open-source community • Report to the technical lead

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer information systems, a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience • 3+ years of professional software development experience • Proficiency in Python and/or Java • Willingness to work with TypeScript/NextJS • Experience with cloud-native infrastructure • Experience with automated delivery pipelines • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform • Experience using OpenAPI for Schema-First/Model-First development and contract-driven APIs • Strong interest in public transport and shared mobility • Experience taking ownership of defined features • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues • Ability to create clear technical documentation • Full proficiency in spoken and written English • Multilingual abilities are an asset
