• Participate in wildland fire operations including ignition, control, mop-up, suppression, monitoring, and other assigned tasks • Work on a 3-person squad associated with the Oakmulgee Ranger District of the Talladega National Forest • Prepare fire lines and monitor post-burn activities • Keep abreast of new burn techniques and equipment • Enhance skills and maintain or grow professional fire certification credentials • Build and maintain relationships in the professional fire community and local community • Participate in wildland fire suppression activities with nonprofits, local fire departments, and local, state, federal, tribal, or Indigenous agencies • Work in variable weather, remote locations, difficult and hazardous terrain, and physically demanding circumstances • Serve as a TNC employee or short-term employee of a partner entity when applicable • Work seasonally from January 4, 2027, to April 23, 2027
• High school diploma or equivalent • Must be able to obtain qualifications for Prescribed Fire Crew Member (RXCM) or Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2) • Must obtain Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180), Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190), Firefighting Training (S-130), and one training burn under qualified FFT2 supervision • Must achieve physical fitness standards determined by the local Prescribed Fire Manager and TNC Fire Management Manual • Experience operating various types of equipment • Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required, e.g., First Aid and CPR • Valid driver's license • Compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program • Completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement • Successful completion of The Nature Conservancy's background screening process
