📋 Description

• Perform electrical engineering design of LV, HV, and EHV electrical power systems, emphasizing transmission and distribution substations • Collaborate with engineers and drafters on detailed electrical and physical substation engineering design projects • Provide engineering design and construction support for assigned projects • Coordinate project flow and issues among engineering disciplines and project management • Provide engineering support to project management, procurement, and construction throughout project stages • Develop single-line switching and protection diagrams • Create equipment specifications and support equipment procurement, vendor coordination, and equipment reviews • Develop three-line and DC schematic diagrams • Develop and maintain bills of material • Develop cable and conduit schedules, including sizing • Perform AC/DC system, battery sizing, overvoltage protection and coordination, conduit fill, grounding, and lightning protection calculations and reports • Develop control panel layouts and wiring diagrams and select protective devices and ratings • Review and coordinate substation physical drawings and calculations • Design underground MV and HV cabling systems, including cable ampacity and installation details • Coordinate designs with clients, vendors, and subcontractors and attend meetings • Maintain engineering documents and records • Coordinate with purchasing and quality control personnel • Guide designers and drafters and review/approve electrical drawings • Participate in development of less experienced engineers

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Power Engineering • Educational courses in power systems analysis and electrical machinery • Knowledge of NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards • 2+ years of experience designing transmission-level substations from 13.8kV to 500kV • Experience with transmission line protection • Experience with substation protection and control systems • Experience with generator, transformer, and bus protection schemes • Experience developing station/substation single-line, protection, control, and SCADA diagrams, including utility and ISO interconnection and operational requirements • Experience with equipment specifications, designs, and layouts, including major equipment, protection, control, SCADA, and low-voltage auxiliary systems • Experience with capacitor banks and distribution feeder protection • Demonstrated experience at all interfaces of transmission-level projects • Experience with SEL, GE, or similar relays • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, NESC, OSHA, NERC, RUS, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and local and federal building codes • Familiarity with substation physical drawings and calculations, including clearances, conduit, grounding, and lightning protection • Ability to execute tasks with adequate supervision • Good written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work effectively in a team setting • Skill in engineering theories and principles • Skill in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making recommendations, and presenting recommendations • Problem-solving skills in time-sensitive situations • Intermediate Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD 2015 or later, and Microsoft Outlook skills • Typically 10% travel • Ability to lift or move equipment up to 15 lbs. • Engineer in Training certification preferred but not required
