• Perform electrical engineering design for LV, HV, and EHV electrical power systems, emphasizing transmission and distribution substations • Lead engineers and drafters on detailed electrical and physical high-voltage substation design projects • Coordinate project flow and issues across engineering disciplines and project management • Provide engineering support to project management, procurement, and construction throughout project stages • Lead multidisciplinary teams executing substation and transmission project engineering and design • Develop single-line switching and protection diagrams, three-line diagrams, and DC schematics • Create equipment specifications and support equipment procurement, vendor coordination, and equipment reviews • Develop bills of material, cable and conduit schedules, control-panel layouts, and wiring diagrams • Perform AC/DC system, battery sizing, overvoltage coordination, conduit fill, grounding, and lightning-protection calculations and prepare reports • Review substation physical drawings and calculations, including arrangements, clearances, conduit, grounding, and lightning protection • Design underground MV and HV cabling systems, including ampacity and installation details • Coordinate designs with clients, vendors, and subcontractors and attend meetings • Maintain engineering documents and records • Coordinate with purchasing and quality-control personnel • Guide designers/drafters and review and approve electrical drawings • Address project requirements across engineering-only, EPC, utility, renewable, industrial, and commercial projects
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Power Engineering • Educational courses in power systems analysis, electrical machinery, etc. • Knowledge of NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards • 5+ years’ experience designing transmission-level substations from 13.8kV to 500kV • Experience with transmission line protection, substation protection and control systems, and generator, transformer, and bus protection schemes • Experience developing single-line, protection, control, and SCADA diagrams, including utility and ISO interconnection and operational requirements • Experience with equipment specifications, designs, and layouts, including major equipment, protection, control, SCADA, and low-voltage auxiliary systems • Experience with capacitor banks and distribution feeder protection • Demonstrated experience across all interfaces of transmission-level projects • Minimum 3 years of application experience with SEL, GE, or similar relays • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, NESC, OSHA, NERC, RUS, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and local/federal building codes • Familiarity with substation physical drawings and calculations • Professional Engineering license in one or more US states preferable but not required • Ability to execute tasks from a lead role • Good written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work effectively in a team setting • Skill in engineering theories and principles, researching design issues, evaluating alternatives, making recommendations, and solving time-sensitive problems • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD 2015 or later, and Microsoft Outlook • Ability to travel approximately 10% • Ability to lift or move equipment up to 15 lbs.
