📋 Description

• Own a team of backend, frontend, and QA engineers building the shipper-facing TMS product • Partner with Product and tech leads to set technical direction, run delivery, and grow engineers • Ramp on the codebase and team, then take ownership of roadmap, delivery, and people development • Work with Product to turn requirements into well-scoped, sequenced work and set delivery milestones • Track team health throughout the SDLC, unblock bottlenecks, and adjust processes • Keep the team aligned with other Engineering squads • Communicate roadmap, trade-offs, and risks to Product, Design, and stakeholders • Set a technical vision tied to company goals and plan for scale • Own the technical roadmap, including strategic technical debt, and drive prioritization • Guide architecture and code-quality decisions in Java/Spring Boot, Hibernate, and RabbitMQ • Review architecture documents, join production-incident RCAs, and run periodic technical-debt reviews • Establish engineering quality standards, including PR review checklists, minimum test coverage, rollback plans, monitoring dashboards, and alerts • Run regular 1:1s, coaching, and performance reviews; guide career growth and delegate ownership • Own headcount planning, hiring, and onboarding • Track and improve engineer velocity and quality

🎯 Requirements

• Advanced-level English skills, especially speaking and writing • At least 3 years of experience managing a team of 5–15 people across full-stack, backend, or mobile technologies • Demonstrated experience in Lean/Agile management practices • Successfully delivered several large projects in the context of the team within the past 3 years • 5+ years of experience developing software as an IC engineer • Strong technical background as a Senior Engineer for at least 3 years on a web backend written in Java/Spring or a comparable high-level backend stack • Ability to manage team members with different skill sets • Ability to communicate expectations clearly and provide frequent individual feedback • Ability to run effective 1-on-1s, group discussions, planning sessions, and retrospectives • Ability to identify high-value projects and keep the team focused • Ability to prioritize, create alignment, and provide clarity • Ability to develop processes and remove execution hurdles • High tolerance for ambiguity and change • Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations • Empathetic and direct communication skills • Experience growing teams, interviewing junior and senior engineers, collaborating with recruiting, and onboarding team members • Strong data-driven prioritization skills • Ability to make sound code-quality versus development-speed trade-offs • Plus: experience managing startup engineering teams during rapid growth and organizational change • Plus: experience rolling out engineering and management practices and processes • Plus: experience managing partially or entirely remote teams • Plus: significant experience designing and operating critical systems • Plus: experience reviewing high-risk PRs involving schema migrations, message contracts, and query performance • Plus: hands-on experience with Metabase and Datadog
