Advanced Energy Systems - Colorado School of Mines & NLR is an interdisciplinary graduate engineering program created through a partnership between the Colorado School of Mines and the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR). The program educates and trains master’s and doctoral researchers to address the technical, economic, and environmental challenges of modern energy infrastructure, emphasizing secure, resilient, and adaptive systems. Students collaborate with faculty and NLR researchers, use shared state-of-the-art facilities, work with industry, government, and nonprofit partners, and prepare for careers solving large-scale energy-system problems.

📋 Description

• Support collaboration with the Kern Community College District and the California Renewable Energy Laboratory (CREL) • Research and synthesize best practices for community air quality monitoring networks • Review existing air quality monitoring programs in California and the Kern County region • Support development of potential configurations for integrating KernCCD-hosted low-cost sensors with existing sensor networks • Assist with environmental data collection, analysis, and presentation • Help develop community science and educational materials

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of a 2.7 cumulative grade point average for associate interns • Must be enrolled in an accredited associate degree program or a bachelor’s degree program in a related field • Must be at least 18 years of age for associate interns • Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average for undergraduate interns • Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA • Interest in air quality, energy systems, sustainability, applied research, or technical education • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint • Strong written communication and organizational skills • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment • Experience conducting literature reviews or organizing technical information for Bachelor-level applicants only
