📋 Description

• Examine and classify the physical characteristics of soil to determine suitability for a wide variety of crops • Classify soil in orchards and/or fields • Use QGIS to digitise analysed soil physical properties • Document soil classification reports • Provide feedback to farmers and clients • Draft drainage layouts • Draft orchard designs • Draft irrigation blocks based on soil physical characteristics • Indicate appropriate probe positions based on soil physical characteristics • Perform ad hoc or other related duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• BSc Agric (Agronomy/Horticulture) or relevant four-year BSc degree in Agriculture/Soil Science or BSc Geology/Environmental Science • BSc Agriculture applicants must have Soil Science as a subject at 3rd-year level • Experience in GIS advantageous • Experience in any crops advantageous • Fluent in Afrikaans and English, both spoken and written • Owns a pickup truck (bakkie) • Enjoys working outdoors • Comfortable working long hours when needed • Eager to learn and expand their scientific knowledge • Willing to travel extensively, both locally and internationally • Willing to work every second Saturday when required • Basic knowledge of soil classification and soil science • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information • Strong sense of responsibility • Able to work independently and as part of a team • Excellent attention to detail • Able to work under pressure • Effective organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks • Able to think critically • Computer literate
