📋 Description

• Design and build scalable, reliable and maintainable backend systems • Identify and scope problems and initiatives independently, weighing impact, priority and timing • Contribute to architectural decisions and design discussions • Drive substantial cross-cutting initiatives end to end with engineering stakeholders • Build and maintain internal tools and infrastructure using AWS and Terraform • Own observability, logging and operational excellence for high availability • Share knowledge through code reviews, design reviews and pairing • Help raise technical standards • Identify opportunities for AI and automation to improve software development and operations • Potential initiatives include database horizontal write-scaling, CI/CD modernisation, CloudFormation-to-Terraform migration, and extracting/reworking common services

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience • Track record of owning significant technical work from ambiguity through completion • Substantial hands-on ownership of infrastructure, reliability or performance • Strong engineering fundamentals transferable across languages and cloud platforms • Experience designing and scaling distributed systems in cloud-native environments • AWS preferred, or strong Azure fundamentals with genuine enthusiasm for switching • Experience with containerised services and infrastructure-as-code, including Docker and Terraform • CloudFormation exposure relevant to the current stack • Ability to write unit and integration tests independently • Ability to discuss a project in depth, including the problem, actions and impact • Fluent English
