âą Assigns appropriate codes to reflect all diagnoses and procedures during a patient encounter âą Abstracts required data to input into the Medical Center's computerized data base âą Converts all patient visits into appropriate DRG assignments for optimal reimbursement âą Assists the IP Coding Manager in administrative duties âą Reviews patient medical records and abstracts medical data that identifies all diagnoses and procedures âą Codes diagnoses, procedures, and appropriate modifiers from the medical record documentation using ICD-10-CM/PCS âą Consults with CDCI team to clarify medical record information âą Ensures coding accuracy rate of 95% or better âą Coordinates with HIM to track missing provider documentation âą Maintains professional skills through attendance at in-service programs, conferences, and workshops
âą Minimum of five years inpatient coding experience in a Level 1 Trauma, Teaching Facility âą Requires inpatient CCS, RHIT or RHIA credentials from AHIMA âą Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 Coding conventions âą Basic concepts of human anatomy, physiology and pathology âą Experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS for diagnoses and procedures âą Strong knowledge of health records, computer systems, Microsoft applications, data integrity, and processing techniques âą Excellent organizational skills, including ability to multi-task, prioritize essential tasks, and follow-through âą Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail âą Ability to solve problems appropriately using job knowledge and current policies/procedures âą Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all personal/health sensitive information and ensure compliance of HIPAA rules and regulations âą Solid communication skills, both oral and written.
