📋 Description

• Own key architectural decisions for Canva’s hybrid mobile platform across React Native, iOS, and Android • Define what should be shared, what should remain native, and how the layers work together • Turn the architecture into shipped production code with performance, reliability, and observability foundations • Deliver a React Native product surface in production within six months • Establish stable capabilities and platform primitives for feature teams • Lead Staff and Senior engineers through the mobile platform migration • Work with major product teams to scale platform adoption • Establish trusted engineering patterns for mobile architecture • Influence mobile architecture decisions across 800+ frontend engineers

🎯 Requirements

• Principal-level experience building or significantly evolving large-scale cross-platform mobile architecture in production • Experience with React Native and React, or deep experience with Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform, or another production-scale cross-platform stack • Experience leading migration of a mature mobile product onto a new architecture while live and growing • Principal-level technical leadership across multiple teams • Organisation-wide influence shaping architecture, platforms, standards, or technical direction • Hands-on technical depth and comfort with difficult implementation details • Strong engineering judgement and first-principles reasoning • Knowledge of shared-code runtimes, native boundaries, bundle delivery, and performance profiling on real devices • Deep iOS and Android fundamentals • Mobile performance, reliability, crash monitoring, and optimisation at scale • Platform architecture involving shared capabilities, libraries, abstractions, and infrastructure • Strong engineering fundamentals, including data structures, complexity, and system-level trade-offs • Role requires relocation to Australia • Work visa required/provided through relocation package
