📋 Description

• Own technical direction and key architectural decisions for Canva’s hybrid mobile platform across React Native, iOS and Android • Determine what should be shared versus native and how platform layers work together • Turn the architecture into shipped production code with performance, reliability and observability foundations • Deliver a React Native product surface live in production within six months • Establish stable capabilities and platform primitives for feature teams • Lead Staff and Senior engineers through the mobile architecture migration • Work with major product teams to scale platform adoption and establish trusted engineering patterns • Shape Canva’s long-term mobile architecture and influence 800+ frontend engineers • Build foundations used by Canva product teams across iOS, Android and web

🎯 Requirements

• Principal-level experience building or significantly evolving large-scale cross-platform mobile architecture in production • Experience leading migration of a mature mobile product to a new architecture while live and growing • Principal-level technical leadership across multiple teams • Organisation-wide architectural influence • Hands-on implementation experience • Strong engineering judgement and first-principles reasoning • Knowledge of shared-code runtimes, native boundaries, bundle delivery and performance profiling on real devices • Deep iOS and Android fundamentals • Mobile performance, reliability, crash monitoring and optimisation at scale • Platform architecture, shared capabilities, libraries, abstractions and infrastructure • Strong fundamentals in data structures, complexity and system-level trade-offs • React Native and React experience highly relevant; Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform or comparable production-scale cross-platform experience accepted • Nice to have: React Native internals, Rust or C/C++, open-source contributions, mobile CI/CD, over-the-air updates and AI tooling experience • Must relocate to Australia; work visa and relocation package provided
