⢠Lead Embedded, one of Production Engineering's two teams ⢠Lead engineers across critical production challenges including data protection, safer software changes, platform reliability and observability, and overload resilience tooling ⢠Build trust and influence engineering leaders outside the reporting line ⢠Help engineers navigate different technical and organisational environments ⢠Shape technical decisions and challenge assumptions ⢠Define Embedded's problem selection, engagement model, success measures and operating practices ⢠Create an environment where experienced engineers can do their best work ⢠Set direction, build psychological safety, provide direct coaching and develop senior engineers' technical and organisational influence ⢠Focus the team on high-impact production problems and make outcomes measurable ⢠Scale the Embedded engagement model while maintaining technical standards, coaching quality and partnerships ⢠Convert engagement lessons into reusable engineering practices, patterns and capabilities ⢠Develop senior engineers and engagement leads into future technical leaders ⢠Collaborate with Core to turn broadly applicable ideas into reusable Canva capabilities
đŻ Requirements
⢠Experience leading highly experienced software engineers and technical leads through complex or ambiguous work ⢠Experience coaching people operating with significant autonomy ⢠Experience in software environments where reliability, scalability and production risk genuinely mattered ⢠Experience building trust and authority through influence rather than reporting lines ⢠Experience leading significant technical initiatives across multiple teams or groups ⢠Experience persuading teams to change how they build or operate software ⢠Ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs to senior stakeholders ⢠Ability to create an environment for challenge, learning and direct feedback ⢠Strong grounding in computer science fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading and data structures ⢠Depth in languages such as Go, Python, Java or C++ ⢠Strong working knowledge of system internals, networking and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP ⢠Comfort reasoning through ambiguous, multi-component systems problems ⢠Strong understanding of system design, architecture and engineering patterns ⢠Familiarity with observability, capacity, failure modes and production-system operations ⢠Experience in large-scale or high-criticality environments ⢠Nice to have: prior SRE/Production Engineering management experience ⢠Nice to have: experience with large-scale storage, CDN, networking or distributed infrastructure ⢠Nice to have: history of developing senior engineers and technical leads ⢠Nice to have: experience defining a technical function's identity, operating model or scope
