⢠Lead Embedded, one of Production Engineering's two teams ⢠Lead engineers working across critical data protection, safer software changes, reliability and observability, and resilience tooling and frameworks ⢠Build trust and influence engineering leaders across teams outside the reporting line ⢠Help engineers navigate different technical and organisational environments ⢠Shape technical decisions and challenge assumptions ⢠Define which problems Embedded takes on, how engagements work, success measures and the team's operating model ⢠Create an environment where experienced engineers can do their best work ⢠Set direction, build psychological safety, provide direct coaching and develop senior engineers' technical and organisational influence ⢠Focus Embedded on high-impact production problems and make outcomes measurable ⢠Develop a scalable engagement model without losing technical quality, coaching quality or close partnerships ⢠Turn engagement lessons into reusable engineering practices, patterns and capabilities across Canva ⢠Develop senior engineers and engagement leads into the next generation of technical leaders
đŻ Requirements
⢠Experience leading highly experienced software engineers and technical leads through complex or ambiguous work ⢠Experience coaching people operating with significant autonomy ⢠Experience in software environments where reliability, scalability and production risk genuinely mattered ⢠Experience building trust from a standing start where influence mattered more than reporting lines ⢠Experience leading significant technical initiatives spanning multiple teams or groups from problem definition through delivery ⢠Experience persuading teams to change how they build or operate software ⢠Ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs to senior stakeholders ⢠Ability to create an environment where engineers can challenge ideas, learn and receive direct feedback ⢠Strong computer science fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading and data structures ⢠Depth in Go, Python, Java or C++ sufficient to engage with designs, implementation choices and technical trade-offs ⢠Strong working knowledge of system internals, networking and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP ⢠Ability to reason through ambiguous problems spanning multiple components, teams and constraints ⢠Strong understanding of system design, architecture and engineering patterns ⢠Familiarity with observability, capacity, failure modes and operational characteristics of production systems ⢠Experience in large-scale or high-criticality environments where reliability failures have meaningful consequences ⢠Nice to have: prior SRE/PE management experience ⢠Nice to have: experience with large-scale storage, CDN, networking or distributed infrastructure ⢠Nice to have: history of developing senior engineers and technical leads ⢠Nice to have: experience defining a technical function's identity, operating model or scope
