📋 Description

• Design and build core infrastructure connecting services across Canva's backend engineering organization • Lead a major migration of backend service communication • Collaborate with partner engineering teams and leaders • Drive support for additional programming languages and frameworks • Own reliability, performance, and correctness of systems on the critical path for the engineering organization • Mentor engineers and raise the team's technical bar • Build and run infrastructure for service communication, traffic routing and security, and multi-language development across Canva's platform

🎯 Requirements

• Experience building and operating infrastructure depended on by other engineering teams • Experience in API gateway, RPC, or service mesh infrastructure, ideally at high traffic and large scale • Ability to own systems where reliability and correctness are critical • Ability to evaluate trade-offs rather than pursue quick fixes • Ability to drive technical direction across teams without direct reporting relationships • Clear communication with engineers and platform-consuming teams • Genuine ownership of outcomes • Years of experience owning large-scale, high-transaction commercial production systems • Experience working in more than one programming language is ideal • Staff-level software engineering experience • Must be based in Australia
