📋 Description

• Provide senior technical leadership across the backend systems behind Canva's experimentation programme • Evolve the platform used to set up experiments, target users, expose variants and measure outcomes • Help build a platform that reinforces experimentation practices, surfaces signals faster and alerts early when things go wrong • Explore automation of experimentation analysis using AI • Own significant technical problems and form technical direction • Work with senior leaders and teams building the experimentation platform • Collaborate across Canva's engineering and data science organisations • Support shared experimentation capabilities used by engineers, data scientists and product teams

🎯 Requirements

• Experience building backend systems or platforms that other engineers depend on • Experience with experimentation, A/B testing, feature-management or progressive-rollout systems in a large engineering environment • Experience taking ambiguous engineering problems, forming technical direction and helping engineers achieve outcomes • Experience building internal platforms or capabilities and driving adoption • Strong software engineering fundamentals • Experience designing reliable backend and distributed systems • Ability to reason about scalability, availability, consistency and failure modes • Familiarity with data engineering, analytics engineering or large-scale data processing • Familiarity with experiment assignment, targeting, variants, feature flags, metrics, guardrails and progressive rollout • Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to transfer them between languages • Java is Canva's primary language but is not a hard requirement • Direct experimentation, A/B testing, feature-management or rollout infrastructure experience is a nice to have • Background spanning software engineering and data science, data engineering or analytics engineering is a nice to have • Experience with feature flagging, user targeting, progressive rollout or automated guardrail systems is a nice to have • Comfort with experimentation and statistics is valuable
