• Demonstrates strong clinical knowledge and understanding of coding/DRG requirements • Reviews clinical documentation during patient admissions and conducts follow-up reviews • Facilitates modifications to clinical documentation • Conducts timely follow-up reviews to ensure documentation is accurate • Submits electronic queries to clinicians for documentation accuracy • Maintains required daily/weekly/monthly metrics • Participates in onsite meetings, conference calls, and Skype presentations • Maintains knowledge of coding and billing rules • Reviews data and trends to identify areas of opportunity
• Bachelor's Degree in nursing or other health-related field • Cert Clin Document Specialist • Cert Coding Spec • Cert Document Improvement Prac • Reg Nurse (Single State) • RN - Multi-state Compact • At least one of the following certifications for non-clinical backgrounds: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA, Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC, Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from AHIMA, Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from AHIMA • For nursing background, a current/active RN license • One or more years working in an acute care setting as a Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) • Minimum of five years of healthcare experience
