📋 Description

• Own and evolve backend and service architecture across product teams • Ensure architectural consistency, scalability, and maintainability • Lead migration of the legacy monolith toward a modular, API-first service architecture • Plan and deliver the migration hands-on • Design event-driven architecture on Kafka and establish streaming patterns • Make and document architectural decisions • Lead cross-team alignment and communicate trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders • Mentor and develop engineers through pair programming, design reviews, and code-quality feedback • Drive AWS infrastructure decisions for service delivery • Guide deployment pipeline and cloud cost decisions • Identify and introduce AI tooling to improve developer productivity and product quality • Communicate technical risks, progress, and recommendations to managers and peers

🎯 Requirements

• Already working at Staff Engineer level or equivalent • Demonstrated technical leadership across teams • Expert-level backend knowledge in a modern typed language and framework • Deep understanding of modern architecture patterns • Production experience decomposing a monolith into services incrementally • Experience designing event-driven architectures with Kafka, including event and topic design, delivery semantics, and schema evolution • Strong AWS experience • Understanding of how cloud infrastructure impacts service delivery • Knowledge of Kubernetes as a deployment target • Active exploration and application of AI tools and techniques in daily engineering work • Proactive and clear written and verbal communication • Fluent in English • German is a plus • PHP/Symfony and TypeScript experience is a plus, not a requirement
