• Responsible for providing a full range of legal services and strategic legal guidance to business partners across the organization • Manages various procurement contracts and supports the Legal Office strategic priorities • Maintains carriage of various files with oversight of the General Counsel • Researches, identifies, and provides updates on case law, legislative requirements and legal trends affecting CM • Helps identify legal issues, risks, and develops strategies to mitigate legal risks • Drafts and negotiates a variety of procurement, supplier and vendor agreements • Collaborates directly with various business clients • Provides clear legal advice on issues, including contract negotiation, drafting, and review • Maintains extensive knowledge of CM’s operations to offer proactive advice • Exercises excellent judgement and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive issues • Collaborates with other members of the Legal office and business clients
• Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD), or equivalent law degree is required • Must be licensed to practice law in Ontario and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario • Minimum five (5) years of experience practicing law and providing legal advice to corporate • Knowledge of legal issues and laws affecting not for profit organizations • Solid negotiation and contract drafting skills involving RFPs, MSAs, SoWs, and various vendor/procurement contracts • Strong critical thinking skills to understand complex fact patterns, identify legal issues and risks, and provide timely advice • Proven ability as a strong communicator to deliver advice that is clear and practical, both orally and in writing • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment • Ability to maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive information with discretion • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, procurement and contract management tools.
