📋 Description

• Position Summary: Effectual’s Office of the CTO sets the company’s technical strategy and delivers the innovation that makes it real. We build and validate new platforms and capabilities, then take the right ones to production. AI and agentic systems remain a core thread of the roadmap, with established production deployments both internally and for customers. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will bring ideas to production on AWS, including integrating LLMs and agents with various platforms and enterprise APIs. This role is primarily internal innovation with occasional support for customer engagements, and the solutions you build will frequently be used both internally and for customer engagements. You will report to the CTO & Chief AI Officer and work with a cross-functional team. • A Glimpse into the Daily Routine of a Senior Software Engineer: Your days follow an agile rhythm: two-week sprints, daily standups, PR-driven development with code reviews, and end-of-sprint demos to showcase progress. A strong documentation culture keeps work clear and consistent, with design docs, ADRs, and runbooks shaping how the team builds and delivers. • Collaboration is at the heart of your role. You’ll partner with product, sales, solution architecture, delivery, and operations to transform prototypes into scalable platforms. Some days you’ll support sales by identifying client use cases or drafting SOWs, while others you’ll focus on pragmatic experimentation—testing small, measurable ideas that graduate into pilots and production deployments. • You’ll also enjoy protected learning time (about 10% of your week) to explore new tech, research, and prototype. Working in a remote-first environment, you’ll connect with teammates across US time zones, with core hours spanning Pacific through Eastern. • Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Build agentic services in Python using frameworks like LangGraph and LangChain, leveraging the latest frontier LLMs from Anthropic, OpenAI, and others. • Integrate with enterprise platforms, APIs, and developer/data systems to automate workflows and enrich context. • Design, develop, and deploy web apps, generally leveraging Typescript, React, and Tailwind CSS. • Design data and retrieval patterns (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, RAG), as well as evaluation and guardrails. • Build backends in Python using libraries like FastAPI. • Contribute to CI/CD, collaborate with platform and DevOps engineers to codify infrastructure (Terraform preferred), and instrument services (tests, monitoring, safe rollback). • Qualifications: • 7+ years building production applications from design through release and iteration. • Hands-on LLM integration (tool use/function calling, retrieval, evaluations, safety/guardrails, tracing/observability). • Strong Python (APIs, async/concurrency, packaging, testing), and TypeScript with React. • Comfortable with databases (PostgreSQL and/or DynamoDB preferred) and log/event pipelines. • Experience with a hyperscale cloud platform (AWS preferred): compute, messaging/queueing, storage, CI/CD, observability, IAM basics. • Practical use of AI dev tools (Claude Code, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.) to accelerate delivery. • Excellent collaboration and communication; able to partner with internal stakeholders and (when needed) customers. • Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience: • LangGraph/LangChain (others welcome) and multiagent patterns. • Terraform; maintaining CI/CD pipelines. • UI/UX instincts for operator workflows. • LLM evaluation and guardrails (harnesses, red teaming, content filters). • Experience delivering in enterprise scale or public sector environments. • Experience in regulated/compliance contexts (HIPAA, PCI DSS) and with change processes. • AWS Bedrock model fine-tuning customization and/or SageMaker experience; vector stores (OpenSearch, pgvector); prompt caching. • Experience with prompt and context engineering and structured output from LLMs. • Business process automation/analysis; consulting/stakeholder management. • Docker or other containerization technologies. • Business process automation/analysis; consulting/stakeholder management. • Salary Range for this position: $150,000-$180,000 • Physical Demands and Work Environment: The work is generally performed in an office environment.
