📋 Description
• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates breastfeeding management for patients in inpatient and outpatient settings by utilizing the nursing process. • Provides holistic, evidence-based breastfeeding support and care from preconception to weaning for women and their families. • Acts as an advocate for breastfeeding as the child-feeding norm. • Provides support for patients, proactively suggests strategies for breastfeeding, and addresses patient issues and concerns. • Conducts prenatal breastfeeding classes and evaluates educational outcomes. • Delivers appropriate education for patients and their support/family. • Provides outpatient care, consultation, and home visits for families experiencing breastfeeding difficulties. • Acts as a clinical expert/resource for staff on subjects related to lactation, including the current standards of practice. • Facilitates the development of policies that protect, promote, and support breastfeeding. • Participates in the development of educational programs and assesses the educational needs of healthcare providers.
🎯 Requirements
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in state of practice. • Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of the start of employment. • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) Certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval. • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (degree will be verified). • Registered Nurses (RNs) hired or promoted into this role must obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four (4) years of their hire or promotion date. • Certification by the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC)
