📋 Description

• Design a Scientific Computing platform together with the Competence Center Scientific Computing (CCS), Research Software Engineers, and users • Develop proof-of-concept solutions and assess their suitability with the CCS and researchers • Integrate systems into the existing IT infrastructure, leverage existing services, and establish interfaces with cross-university infrastructures • Build and continuously develop a platform for Scientific Computing, storage, and machine learning • Support infrastructure from initial concept through the pilot phase and into regular operations • Systematically assess requirements for storage, Scientific Computing, and machine learning • Develop technical concepts and establish a pilot installation tailored to research needs • Collaborate with Research Software Engineers on the integration and operation of scientific software • Select and coordinate implementation partners • Further develop systems based on user feedback and continuously ensure quality • Provide technical support to users together with the CCS • Cooperate and exchange knowledge with universities in Austria and abroad • Ensure ongoing infrastructure operations, patch management, and IT security monitoring

🎯 Requirements

• Completed relevant university degree, for example in computer science, data science, or a strongly computer-based research field, or an equivalent qualification with relevant professional experience • Experience with cloud-native architectures • Experience with shared computing and storage infrastructure, such as OpenStack, Ceph, and S3 • Experience with automation, pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) • Experience with availability and resource monitoring • Practical experience managing research data, research infrastructures, or scientific data workflows • Experience analyzing requirements with researchers and translating research needs into functional and technical requirements or solution options • Practical experience independently developing, testing, and documenting technical prototypes • Ability to test and evaluate technical solutions with researchers during pilot operations • Security-first mindset • Strong consulting and knowledge-transfer skills, including training and information services • Excellent spoken and written German and English • Structured approach to work, teamwork, service orientation, and willingness to pursue further training • Preferred: Experience with High Performance Computing at universities, particularly ASC or MUSICA • Preferred: Experience with large or distributed datasets and high-performance networking between storage and computing systems • Preferred: Experience in a university environment
