📋 Description

• Evaluate and evolve Tiko’s global data function • Assess the current data setup and provide a roadmap toward a mature, data-driven operating model • Evaluate Data Engineering and Data Analysis team structures • Recommend a scalable target data team structure aligned with governance and architecture requirements • Define interaction models between Data teams, Core Software Engineering, and Data Architecture • Recommend ways of working, standards, documentation guidelines, and shared best practices • Audit Data Analyst technical and analytical capabilities • Define a target capability model covering SQL, data modelling, BI engineering, visualisation, analytical thinking, and business insight generation • Create phased training, development, and future hiring plans • Identify opportunities for analysts to contribute to high-level business decisions • Review collaboration between data teams, Data Architecture, and the Privacy & Security Team • Improve operational alignment with architectural standards and data governance initiatives • Help leadership identify and unblock architectural and governance challenges • Assess cross-departmental data analysis, metrics, and reporting needs • Evaluate Tableau and Lightdash usage, capabilities, adoption risks, and tooling strategy • Recommend data literacy, training, enablement, and data-driven culture initiatives • Identify practical machine learning opportunities and outline a phased advanced analytics path

🎯 Requirements

• 15–20+ years of deep, hands-on experience across the data engineering, architecture, and analytics lifecycle • Proven background having held a Head of Data, Director of Data, or equivalent executive-level consulting role • Experience working across multiple distinct organisations • Direct experience guiding at least one successful corporate transformation into a fully data-driven enterprise • Experience-based understanding of effective organisational and technical approaches • Ability to critically assess technical frameworks and human organisational capabilities • Pragmatic, outcome-focused approach • Comfort challenging internal assumptions and delivering clear, opinionated, actionable recommendations • Exceptional stakeholder engagement, storytelling, and strategic communication skills • Currently based in South Africa, Portugal, or Kenya • Technical proficiency in SQL and data modelling techniques • Experience with BI engineering, dashboard hygiene, and data visualisations • Experience with BI tools such as Tableau and Lightdash • Experience aligning data teams with data architecture, privacy, and security governance
