📋 Description

• Define and lead the conservation strategy and Theory of Change for the Brazilian Amazon. • Own strategic results, impact indicators, and operational performance for conservation programs and initiatives. • Set priorities, manage risks, and make strategic decisions in complex, ambiguous, and long-term contexts. • Ensure that science, data, evidence, and innovation inform conservation strategies. • Lead, develop, and evaluate managers, coordinators, and multidisciplinary teams. • Define the organizational structures, roles, responsibilities, and capabilities required. • Promote an organizational culture aligned with TNC values, including ethics, diversity, equity, and inclusion. • Oversee financial resources and program budgets, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and sustainability. • Ensure program governance, monitoring, evaluation, learning, and continuous adaptation. • Work collaboratively with other directorates, management teams, and cross-functional departments. • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with governments, civil society, the private sector, academia, communities, and funders. • Lead or support fundraising, donor relations, and institutional negotiations. • Represent TNC institutionally in strategic forums, negotiations, and decision-making spaces. • Influence public policy, decision-making processes, and governance mechanisms for conservation and sustainable development in the Amazon. • Promote multisector collaboration to expand the scale, effectiveness, and durability of results. • Ensure the integrity, organization, confidentiality, accuracy, and traceability of project information. • Travel nationally and internationally as required by programmatic and strategic needs.

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience in natural resource management, public policy, economics, or a related field. • Advanced English proficiency, both written and spoken. • Demonstrated experience leading management teams, including supervising managers and multidisciplinary teams. • Strong experience in strategy development, portfolio management, prioritization, and strategic decision-making. • Experience developing partnerships with NGOs, the private sector, community groups, and/or government agencies, as well as conducting complex negotiations and managing relationships with funders. • Experience conducting complex negotiations. • Experience managing the finances and budgets of large-scale programs. • Experience designing and leading the implementation of strategies across large landscapes. • Experience with government relations and public policy implementation. • More than 10 years of experience in socioeconomic development and/or conservation practices, or equivalent training, gained through implementing complex programs with measurable impact in Brazil across nonprofit organizations, the private sector, governments, and/or multilateral agencies. • Experience influencing public policy and coordinating multisector initiatives in the Amazon biome. • Demonstrated experience with structured or corporate finance, or more than 10 years of direct experience in the private sector. • Expert-level ability in highly complex negotiations, conflict mediation, and high-level institutional representation. • Demonstrated management expertise in budgeting, team management, and performance management. • Fundraising experience. • Preferred education: Graduate degree in a related field preferred. • Fluency in English and a good command of Spanish are preferred. • Permanent residence in one of the state capitals within Brazil’s Legal Amazon region. • Willingness and availability to travel nationally and internationally. • Ability to work in varied climate and terrain conditions, including remote and physically demanding locations. • Successful applicant must meet The Nature Conservancy's background screening requirements.
