📋 Description

• Develop and support freshwater conservation strategies across the Asia Pacific region in partnership with TNC country and global programs • Ensure an impactful portfolio of freshwater conservation projects for resilient watersheds and durable freshwater protection • Design and support implementation of nature-based solutions for water provisioning and regulation and durable freshwater protection • Cultivate partnerships with Asia Pacific country teams, Conservancy staff, and external partners • Align Asia Pacific work with TNC global teams and pathways of impact • Build scientific and technical capacity within country programs • Refine and strengthen Theories of Change for freshwater conservation • Negotiate innovative solutions with local communities, government agencies, corporations, and lending institutions • Ensure freshwater conservation work is represented in Asia Pacific’s Portfolio Management approach • Support robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning programs reporting progress against TNC’s 2030 Goals • Serve as Asia Pacific focal point for TNC’s Nature4Water partnership • Pursue and secure fundraising opportunities advancing freshwater priorities, including Forever Freshwater geographies in Mongolia and Australia • Engage donors, create proposals, and develop partnerships • Support internal and external communications about freshwater conservation • Represent TNC in internal and external subject matter forums • Manage project budgets and a matrixed team as needed • Report to the Asia Pacific Deputy Director of Conservation and operate within a decentralized, highly matrixed structure

🎯 Requirements

• BA/BS degree and 7 years’ experience in conservation practice or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience • Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners • Experience developing freshwater conservation recommendations strongly supported by science • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies • Frequent international travel; occasional evening and weekend hours • Ability to work in variable weather conditions, remote locations, and difficult and hazardous terrain • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated • 7–10 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience • Masters or PhD in a relevant field desired • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends and practices in freshwater conservation • Ability to convert freshwater conservation knowledge into strategies relevant to TNC • Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing freshwater conservation policy and plans • Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and using influence, interpersonal skills, active listening, good judgement, diplomacy and tact • Fundraising and grant writing experience • Alignment with TNC values • Successful completion of The Nature Conservancy’s background screening process
