📋 Description

• Shape and drive TNC Africa Region's content vision, editorial strategy, and storytelling agenda • Create compelling narratives showcasing conservation impact, partner and community voices, donor engagement, organizational influence, and mission connection • Translate complex conservation, scientific, and community-based work into compelling stories • Lead end-to-end storytelling from story identification and field reporting through writing, editing, multimedia production, publishing, and performance analysis • Develop and own the Africa content and storytelling strategy aligned with regional priorities, conservation objectives, philanthropic goals, and brand standards • Establish editorial vision and annual storytelling roadmap • Lead content planning and maintain a pipeline of high-impact stories • Define storytelling frameworks, editorial standards, voice, tone, and content governance practices • Advise leadership and program teams on strategic storytelling • Identify emerging stories, trends, and content opportunities • Identify, research, and develop stories from landscapes, communities, Indigenous Peoples, practitioners, scientists, donors, partners, and staff • Produce feature stories, long-form articles, case studies, donor stories, scripts, blogs, and impact reports • Conduct interviews and gather firsthand information • Lead multimedia projects involving video, photography, audio, and digital content • Travel to field sites for reporting, interviews, story gathering, and content production • Develop creative briefs and storytelling concepts • Collaborate with photographers, videographers, designers, editors, creative agencies, and production partners • Oversee content production workflows and maintain approved content asset libraries • Monitor content effectiveness using audience insights, analytics, and engagement metrics • Evaluate performance across channels and recommend data-driven improvements • Measure storytelling effectiveness for donor engagement, partnerships, and organizational visibility • Partner with philanthropy, conservation, science, policy, country, and digital teams • Provide editorial guidance and support across the Africa region • Review, edit, and strengthen internal and external partner content • Serve as a subject matter expert on storytelling and content development • Build networks and collaborations to elevate Africa stories for global showcases • Report to the Director Marketing & Communications - Africa

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, English, or related field and a minimum 7 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience • Exceptional writing, editing, interviewing, and narrative development skills • Demonstrated experience developing content strategies and managing editorial pipelines • Experience producing content across written, digital, visual, and multimedia platforms • 8+ years of professional experience in content strategy, editorial leadership, journalism, storytelling, publishing, or multimedia content development (desired) • Experience working in conservation, environmental, development, sustainability, or nonprofit sectors (desired) • Background in journalism, documentary storytelling, or editorial publishing (desired) • Experience producing stories for donor, philanthropic, and partnership audiences (desired) • Knowledge of digital content performance metrics and audience engagement strategies (desired) • Experience working across multiple African countries and cultures (desired) • Strong understanding of ethical storytelling, representation, and inclusive narrative practices (desired) • Strong portfolio demonstrating impactful storytelling and editorial leadership (desired) • Experience gathering stories through direct field reporting and stakeholder interviews (desired) • Excellent project management skills with experience managing multiple content initiatives simultaneously (desired) • Excellent relationship-building and collaboration skills across cultures, functions, locations, and time zones (desired) • Fluency in written and spoken English • Valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program • Completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, potentially including a motor vehicle record review • Ability to work in a country where TNC has offices: Kenya, Tanzania, Gabon, Zambia, South Africa, or Angola • No employment visa or assistance is offered except for local labour employment requirements
