• Lead and oversee the organization’s legal affairs department • Act as senior legal advisor to the Chief Executive Officer, senior management and the Board of Directors • Provide legal advice and regulatory interpretation regarding the organization’s core operational processes • Serve as an advisory resource on the legal structure of strategic partnerships and high-risk organizational agreements • Draft, review and update contracts • Interpret and apply federal, provincial, territorial and international legal and regulatory frameworks • Monitor legislative and regulatory initiatives and assess their impact on the organization’s strategy • Identify and evaluate significant legal and regulatory risks • Provide advice on labour and employment law in a unionized environment • Retain and supervise external counsel services while ensuring solicitor-client privilege/confidentiality • Provide legal support and awareness training to management and staff
• Law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) from a recognized Canadian educational institution • Member in good standing of a Canadian provincial or territorial law society • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a senior legal counsel role • Minimum 10 years’ experience in regulated sectors (e.g., healthcare, pharmaceutical industry, public sector or not-for-profit organizations) • Experience working in a unionized environment • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English • Excellent oral and written communication skills in French (an asset)
