📋 Description

• Design, build, and scale Java backend services powering global payments infrastructure • Lead the design and development of backend services, distributed systems, and APIs • Own features end-to-end, including architecture, coding, testing, observability, and deployment • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code using engineering best practices and TDD • Break complex technical work into manageable chunks • Work in a collaborative, cross-functional, agile team environment • Mentor associate and mid-level engineers • Identify, document, and deliver performance, reliability, and scalability improvements • Participate in incident response and support rotations • Participate in an on-call rotation one week out of every five weeks • Contribute to technical strategy and raise engineering standards across the organization

🎯 Requirements

• Significant commercial experience with modern Java 15; multiple projects with 5+ years of experience as a guide • Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining distributed systems and microservices • Deep understanding of object-oriented programming • Familiarity with event-driven architectures or Domain-Driven Design • Strong system design experience, including scalable, resilient, and high-performance distributed applications • Ability to make architectural decisions and evaluate technical trade-offs • Experience working with test-driven development (TDD) • Strong grasp of relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL, and data modeling • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS • Experience with containerization, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code • Experience in fintech, payments, or other high-throughput/regulated domains • Desire to learn, grow, and collaborate • Ability to work as an independent contractor and issue invoices for fees • Ability to pass credit, education, sanction and enforcement, employment, criminal, and identity checks
