📋 Description

• Drive technical trade-offs and engineering execution — partner with Product and Architecture leadership to turn product strategy into executable plans, scope projects, manage milestones, and balance speed, quality, and sustainability. • Build and shape the engineering org — design structures, processes, team structure, and performance systems. • Manage and grow people — run 1:1s, give feedback, implement leveling and performance systems. • Recruit and hire — attract, evaluate, and close top-tier engineering talent and hire managers over time. • Maintain technical grounding — understand product and systems, engage with code and technical reviews at a lightweight level. • Foster an energizing culture for engineering, especially in a remote-first setting. • Partner across functions — communicate trade-offs and decisions with clarity and invite constructive challenge. • Collaborate with CTO, Chief Architect, and senior engineers shaping technical direction.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience leading engineering in early-stage, high-growth startups (ideally Series A, 15–60 engineers). • Strong technical background in data infrastructure, with experience from teams building and operating critical systems (e.g. SLAs, on‑call rotations, high availability). • Ability to gather the right context to assess technical feasibility and make high-level design decisions. • Committed to customer value and business impact in roadmap delivery. • Track record of implementing processes that stick — planning cadences, performance systems, incident response, etc. • Experience hiring and managing managers, and comfort staying hands-on with direct reports until the org is ready to scale. • Strong people leadership skills, mentoring, motivating, and growing engineers; able to have hard performance conversations. • Humility and confidence to work alongside a very senior technical team. • Excellent communication skills, with bias toward clarity, curiosity, and proactive expectation-setting.

🏖️ Benefits

• Competitive cash and equity compensation. • Six weeks paid vacation. • Whatever hardware and software you need to do your job.
