📋 Description

• Own and evolve complex systems spanning multiple teams, services, and repositories • Drive architecture discussions and facilitate high-impact technical decisions • Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain production systems • Conduct thorough, high-volume code reviews across repositories • Pair with and mentor engineers across teams • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, including algorithmic and data-correctness problems • Build and maintain data ingestion pipelines, event-driven services, and cross-service infrastructure • Break down large, ambiguous, cross-team initiatives into sequenced projects and tasks • Improve shared engineering practices and infrastructure, including CI/CD, developer tooling, observability, testing, and security • Document system architecture and create runbooks • Collaborate with engineering leads and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous problems into technical solutions • Build user-facing features end-to-end when needed, from data models through Phoenix LiveView interfaces

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience • Strong proficiency in Elixir and functional programming concepts • Proven experience building and maintaining production applications with Elixir and Phoenix • Experience owning and evolving large systems spanning multiple services, repositories, and teams • Strong understanding of software architecture and experience driving technical decisions across teams • Experience with Phoenix LiveView is strongly preferred • Strong PostgreSQL knowledge, including query optimization and performance tuning • Experience building data ingestion pipelines or ETL processes, particularly from third-party data sources • Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues, and cross-service data consistency • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, particularly with complex, numerical, or data-intensive systems • Experience with Git, code reviews, automated testing, and collaborative development practices • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to influence technical direction across teams • Experience working effectively in highly autonomous and primarily remote environments • Experience with AWS services such as SQS/SNS, S3, Athena, or Glue • Experience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes/EKS • Experience with event sourcing, CQRS, or schema-versioned events such as Protobuf or Avro • Experience building systems from scratch and later evolving or handing them off to other teams • Demonstrated track record of improving engineering productivity through mentoring, pairing, code reviews, tooling, or technical leadership • Experience leading through influence rather than formal authority • Experience diagnosing and resolving complex production issues in systems not originally built by the candidate
