📋 Description

• Architect, design, and implement scalable, resilient, and secure database systems • Monitor database performance, analyze bottlenecks, optimize queries, develop indexing strategies, and tune servers • Audit existing database structures and legacy schemas • Propose and implement structural improvements with minimal system downtime • Lead logical and physical data modelling efforts • Ensure data integrity, normalization, and alignment with modern software design principles • Design and oversee data replication, clustering, disaster recovery protocols, and access controls • Mentor and exchange database expertise with the engineering team • Evaluate and recommend database technologies, storage engines, and caching strategies • Solve complex data challenges and communicate architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders • Report directly to the Development Manager and support the wider Development team

🎯 Requirements

• Strong English language skills, both written and verbal • Willingness to work in Melbourne (Australia) hours • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience • 5+ years' experience in a dedicated Database Architect, Senior DBA, or Data Engineering role • Experience ideally within telecommunications or a high-volume ISP environment • Experience working in remote-based teams • Extensive experience designing, implementing, and managing databases for complex service-based systems • Exceptional understanding of complex SQL queries, transaction isolation levels, and concurrency control • Experience with MySQL, MariaDB, or similar relational databases • Advanced logical and physical data modelling • Query profiling, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis • Redis or Memcached • Database administration and shell scripting in a Linux environment • Git, GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket for managing schema changes • Ability to learn new technologies quickly • Ability to problem solve and work independently and as part of the development team
