📋 Description

• Own the technical vision and roadmap for Sezzle’s authentication and authorization platform, including a dedicated API auth gateway and supporting identity services • Architect, design, and build scalable, highly available authentication services and gateway components primarily in Golang using AWS, RDS, and distributed patterns • Design and lead phased, zero-downtime migrations of authentication traffic and functionality with rollback and safety mechanisms • Establish and evolve authentication and authorization standards, including OAuth2/OIDC, token strategies, service-to-service authentication, and fine-grained authorization models • Drive consistency and scalability across distributed microservices while maintaining performance, reliability, and latency budgets for an edge gateway • Partner with Security and Compliance to meet fintech-grade security and regulatory requirements • Establish engineering best practices for observability, security, and CI/CD • Participate in the on-call rotation and help lead incident response and postmortems • Mentor engineers and champion learning, innovation, and operational excellence • Collaborate cross-functionally to translate business goals into technical roadmaps and deliver results • Help establish effective AI-tooling practices for security-sensitive systems

🎯 Requirements

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant backend experience • Deployed significant changes to a production application within the past 30 days • Deep hands-on expertise in authentication and authorization systems, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, JWT, session-based authentication, token lifecycle management, RBAC, ABAC, and policy-as-code • Experience designing, building, or operating an API gateway or auth proxy at scale • Proven experience leading a large-scale service extraction or migration with zero or minimal customer impact • Strong proficiency in Golang and experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs • Expertise with SQL-based RDBMS, including MySQL and PostgreSQL, and performance optimization of schemas and queries • Understanding of distributed systems design patterns, including transactional outbox, event-driven architecture, and queues • Ability to bring forward ideas, influence decisions, and lead complex technical initiatives across teams • Demonstrated current use of AI tooling such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or custom LLM integrations • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field (required) • Preferred: identity platforms and standards implementations, service mesh and edge technologies, threat modeling, observability tools, AWS infrastructure, fintech/payments/BNPL/consumer lending, PCI-DSS/SOC 2, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, commercial APIs, and platform infrastructure
