📋 Description

• Assess and harden the infrastructure estate across Linode and DigitalOcean, fronted by Cloudflare • Own resilience planning against 99.9% uptime, 4-hour recovery time objective, and 1-hour recovery point objective targets • Build a 3-2-1 backup regime with hourly encrypted MongoDB dumps, second-region replication, off-provider replication, and a local encrypted archive • Prove backups through monthly restore drills • Build and maintain CI/CD for the MEAN-stack application • Implement zero-downtime releases using rolling restarts behind a load balancer and blue-green deployments • Integrate the QA team’s automated test suite as a release gate • Run monitoring, alerting, and incident response for uptime, error rates, and performance • Ensure alerts reach the appropriate person before users notice issues • Write and rehearse the disaster-recovery runbook • Own security posture, including secrets management, access control, Cloudflare WAF and rules, security-audit remediation, and UK GDPR alignment • Manage cloud costs across providers and report monthly spend • Evaluate provider consolidation or AWS-based recovery based on evidence • Document infrastructure through runbooks usable by the engineering team without live assistance

🎯 Requirements

• 4+ years running production infrastructure for a live web application • Personally accountable for at least one production platform • Hands-on experience with Linux servers on Linode/DigitalOcean or similar VPS providers • Experience with Cloudflare DNS, caching, and WAF • Experience with Docker • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI • Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or Ansible strongly preferred • Production MongoDB operations, including replica sets, backups, restores, and migrations under load • Experience deploying and operating Node.js applications • Experience with MEAN stack: MongoDB, Express, Angular, Node • Evidence of security hardening, secrets management, and access reviews • Experience preparing for or remediating a security audit is a strong plus • Comfortable being the only infrastructure person • Experience in edtech, CRM-style platforms, or systems holding sensitive personal data is nice to have • UK GDPR / Cyber Essentials familiarity is nice to have • Experience taking over a platform from a departing team is nice to have
