• Reporters are responsible for gathering, verifying and utilizing information regarding wildfires. • They monitor various sources including scanner traffic, fire cameras, user-submitted intel, official messages from agencies and automated bot detections provided by Watch Duty. • Reporters collaborate and verify with one another and formulate an alert to send out to millions of people. • This role will specifically be for overnight volunteers.
• Must be 18 years of age or older • A community spirit and the desire to help others in times of need • Experience monitoring or listening to emergency communications • Ability to work in a team and collaborate in real-time on Slack (our internal messaging platform) • The ability to multitask while dealing with high-pressure situations • A professional approach to disseminating vital information in a clear and concise manner • Willingness and availability to cover overnight shifts • Background in fire, dispatch, law enforcement, or first response (nice to have) • Experience reporting on disasters, with an audience, on Facebook, X, etc. (nice to have) • Understanding of technology, radio scanners, software engineering, etc (nice to have) • The willingness to assist with coverage outside your local area (nice to have)
