📋 Description

• Develop robust software in the e-commerce domain • Implement best practices to improve existing software and participate in developing new features • Maintain the search stack during the transition from Elasticsearch to Vertex AI Search • Design and build solutions for business users and improve customer experience • Architect and design solutions with the team • Develop high-quality production code for complex, high-scale work • Improve functional and non-functional testing practices • Design solutions for complex system- or domain-wide problems • Participate in architecture proposals and support architectural alignment across engineering • Respond to and resolve production bugs • Respond to alerts and support incident response • Investigate and drive resolution of issues impacting multiple teams • Define and improve engineering processes and directives • Review and contribute to internal documentation • Identify technology risks and opportunities • Share knowledge through blog posts, tech talks, and workshops • Contribute to division discussions and decisions • Implement and maintain REST and RPC APIs using Python • Develop and maintain automation tests • Liaise with internal stakeholders about project requirements and progress • Provide rotational after-hours support for critical system issues when needed • Report to the respective team’s manager

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience • 5 to 10 years in a software development role • Experience developing scalable backend systems • Thorough understanding of computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms • Ability to write robust, efficient production code • Proficiency in a strongly typed open source language such as Python, Java, or Golang • Experience with RESTful APIs and web services • Experience with SQL database systems • Experience developing in a Linux environment • Strong analytical and critical thinking, using data to inform decisions • Ability to disaggregate and structure solutions to ambiguous problems • Solid quantitative skills • Ability to present ideas succinctly, in writing and verbally • Versatility and appetite to learn by doing • Search technologies experience is advantageous, including Elasticsearch, Vertex AI Search, Solr, Algolia, or another major third-party provider • Familiarity with microservices architecture is advantageous • Experience working in an Agile environment is advantageous • Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Memcached, Redis, message brokers, queues, PubSub systems, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub, Travis CI, Jenkins, AWS, GCP, Azure, JavaScript, React, or jQuery is advantageous
