• Manage and oversee an assigned portfolio of complex grants and contracts • Prepare and submit grants and contracts through the pre-award process using Sponsor and Duke regulations • Advise faculty/PIs on administrative requirements, budgets, adjustments, and sponsor requirements • Prepare, coordinate, and review biosketches, budgets, justifications, and facilities and resources • Manage subcontract and sub-award processes with the pre-award office and collaborating organizations • Manage budget, effort, reporting, and compliance timelines throughout the grant or contract lifecycle • Provide ad hoc reports to business managers and PIs • Reconcile monthly budget reports and identify and submit cost transfers • Prepare and submit requests for re-budgeting or modifying funded projects • Reconcile and close sub-recipient cost objects and obtain sponsor-required reports • Maintain financial records according to institutional document retention guidelines • Manage overdrafts and ensure proper recording of project revenue • Close funded projects according to university processes and timelines • Develop project management plans for faculty/PI or senior grants administrator review • Monitor and implement cost sharing and apply federal and university effort-management rules • Submit reports to central and unit management
• Bachelor's degree required • Research or grants education and/or certification preferred • Completion of required Duke research administration training and Research Administration Academy (RAA) required within established timelines • No experience required for candidates with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a directly related field • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Strong analytical background • Advanced Excel proficiency • Ability to analyze data, manage multiple projects, think critically, make independent decisions, and provide exceptional customer service
