• Guide faculty and principal investigators through the full lifecycle of sponsored projects • Develop, prepare, and submit grant and contract proposals • Ensure applications and contracts meet agency and university guidelines, timetables, and deadlines • Enter and route proposals for review • Reconcile assigned project budgets and prepare complex budget reports • Prepare budget adjustments and corrections for review and approval • Manage and oversee an assigned portfolio of complex grants and contracts • Develop budgets and budget justifications and proof them for accuracy • Advise faculty/PI on administrative proposal requirements • Coordinate proposal elements including biosketches, justifications, and facilities and resources • Monitor compliance with agency and university submission and reporting regulations • Manage project portfolios, budgets, reporting, and compliance timelines • Establish sub-recipient financial and reporting requirements and coordinate sub-agreements • Reconcile monthly budget reports and submit cost transfers • Prepare requests for re-budgeting or modifying funded projects • Maintain financial records and manage patient-care expense charging and overdrafts • Manage project revenue and close funded projects • Develop project management plans • Submit reports to grants and contracts leadership when requested
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a field of study directly related to the specific position; no experience required for these candidates • Successful completion of the Research Administration Academy (RAA) Onboarding Training and registration in a learning track within the first 90 days • Maintain certification(s) by completing continuing education requirements • Ability to analyze data and formulate conclusions • Ability to learn changing technologies related to grants and contracts management • Proficient use of computers and solid working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint) • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks simultaneously • Ability to create verbal and written reports • Knowledge of federal rules and regulations relating to research grant and/or contract activity • Knowledge of Duke University policies, procedures, processes, systems, and offices related to grant and contract submission and management • Ability to apply federal and university rules to effort allocation and costing for federally funded projects • Experience with or ability to perform required functions in SPS, R3, grants.duke, and SES • Understanding of financial processes and controls, including reconciliation
