📋 Description

• Abstract a wide range of medical data from the EMR and code it in compliance with American College of Surgeons and NC Central Cancer Registry data standards • Abstract medical history, physical findings, screening information, occupation, previous cancer history, diagnostic findings, procedures, primary site, cell type, and extent of disease • Abstract cancer treatment including surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and immunotherapy • Record patient identification data including age, gender, race/ethnicity, birthplace, and residence • Collect annual follow-up outcomes regarding patient status, recurrence, and treatment • Maintain understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, and surgical/radiation techniques • Participate in continuing education regarding new chemotherapy and hormone drugs and coding guidelines • Apply ICD-1O, FORDS, AJCC, and SEER coding guidelines to inpatient and outpatient diagnoses and procedures • Correlate coding with supporting clinical documentation in the EMR • Participate in developing coding policies and procedures • Independently research and resolve complex coding problems • Assist with special projects as required • Ensure adherence to state and national data-management requirements and departmental and DCI Cancer Committee standards • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described

🎯 Requirements

• Oncology Data Specialist certification required • Proficient in Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards (FORDS) • Proficient in ICD-1O Coding • Proficient in AJCC TNM • Proficient in Collaborative Staging • Proficient in Surveillance, Epidemiology, End Results (SEER) staging • Proficient in multiple primary and histology coding • Working knowledge of Oncology Registry software • Working knowledge of Windows-based software • Working knowledge of EPIC EMR • Thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, surgical and radiation techniques • Excellent organizational skills and follow through • Investigative/analytic skills with detail orientation • Ability to achieve productivity goals under pressure • Good verbal and written communication skills • Must reside in Indiana, Michigan, Maine, Ohio, New Hampshire, Arizona, Hawaii, Illinois, Montana, Colorado, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or Washington, DC
