• Review assigned claims • Contact insureds and other affected parties • Set expectations for the remainder of the claim process • Initiate documentation in the claim handling system • Complete complex coverage analysis • Identify all applicable policyholder benefits • Create additional sub-claims when needed • Investigate claim facts to determine payment, applicable limits or exclusions, and recovery potential • Review damages and determine applicability of state law and other claim-related factors • Evaluate the financial value of losses • Approve payments for appropriate parties • Refer claims to Underwriting, Recovery Units, or the Claims Special Investigation Unit when necessary • Document and code claim files and complete claim closure activities in the claims management system • Negotiate claim settlements • Handle complex Auto Physical Damage claims, including total-loss settlements, vehicle inspections, and damage estimates • Manage Direct Repair Shops for program compliance when serving as a DRS Examiner • Determine damage causes, establish liability, and identify subrogation potential • Monitor repairs and approve car rental expenses • Oversee Auto Physical Damage litigation cases • Manage litigation, including attorney and budget management, mediation participation, and settlement-position decisions • Assist the Claim Manager with file reviews and training • Work remotely from a home office for day-to-day operations, with occasional travel for meetings, collaborative activities, or team-building activities as specified by leadership
• High school diploma or equivalent • Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience • Adjuster’s license where required by the state • Three years of experience or equivalent training in negotiation of claim settlements, securing and evaluating evidence, preparing manual and electronic estimates, subrogation claims, resolving coverage questions, taking statements, and establishing claim evaluation and resolution plans • Handle claims according to Claim Handling Standards • Follow and apply ACG Claim policies, procedures, and guidelines • Work within assigned ACG Claim systems, including basic PC software • Perform basic claim file reviews and investigations • Effective verbal and written communication skills • Customer service and relationship-building skills • Problem-solving and sound decision-making skills • Ability to prioritize claim-related functions • Ability to process time-sensitive data and information from multiple sources • Time management, organization, and workload planning skills • Safely operate a motor vehicle to visit repair facilities, homes, and other locations • Research, analyze, and interpret subrogation laws in various states • Ability to travel outside the assigned territory, potentially involving overnight stays • Ability to relocate and work evenings or weekends • Preferred: Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance, or related field, or equivalent related work experience • Preferred: Insurance Institute of America's General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, Associate in Management, or equivalent • Preferred: CPCU coursework or designation • Preferred: I-CAR ProLevel training • Preferred: CCC training • Preferred: Xactware training • Preferred knowledge of Essential Insurance Act (Michigan), Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims, subrogation procedures, intercompany arbitration, simple litigation, Negligence Law, No-Fault Law, and collision repair techniques • Must consent to a background and drug screen if offered employment • Regular and reliable attendance is essential
